What a Guy wants..

by Miss Style on Thursday, January 26, 2012

Hey ladies! So guess what's coming up...Valentimes! Yeah, cue the eye rolling and "pffft"'s. Once again, I will be single with millions of other women on this, holiest of days. I say, why not embrace our singleness? Okay well this post doesn't exactly CELEBRATE being single, but it helps those of us that may be trying to hook that one guy that won't stick...I'm not going to say that I'm going to give you the secret to getting the man of your dreams, but this sure as hell will help! In short, I've been reading fashion magazines up the wazoo, and I have a theory about what MOST guys want: Simple. They don't want you to look too made up, like you put so much effort into looking like a hot toddy, even though we still spend 2 hours picking out the perfect white T shirt. They don't need to know this.
Here is an example of what I'm talking about. I saw a poll in Glamour magazine recently that said guys like girls best in just a White V neck, nice fitting jeans, and black pumps. Easy enough right? Don't go crazy, because you want to look like you're not putting in to much effort to look a certain way--put that extra effort into making a good impression!

Okay so your outfit is done, but what about makeup? How do we impress the guys that apparently say we look better without makeup? I think what they mean by "no  makeup" is, you just got out of bed looking completely fresh faced and flushed with the teensiest bit of dark rimmed lashes. Hey, I'm trying to please both parties here.

This is a simple look, not using too much makeup that enhances the eyes for that "Vampy Valentines" face we're going for.
The products I used so you can follow along are:

Covergirl ageless foundation             Mary Kay Powder Foundation                Covergirl Concealer

Sephora 48 Color Blockbuster, I use this for blush and I also used the Black Kohl pencil it came with.

Maybelline Black Gel Liner                                      Naked Palette from Ubran Decay, I used black color

NYC Lip Stain in Champagne Stain

In this case, Hair is a cinch. I suggest going back to the basics. When it comes to men, they're not hard to figure out. Everything is "less is more", so in the case of hair, I'd suggest looking to someone like the lovely Brigitte Bardot for inspiration..let's just say, BIG and SEXY.  Let's not overdo it on the hairspray though, ladies.

Bardot always looked like she had the effortless look down PAT. Bridgey, TEACH US.

Here are two ladies that really wore the effortless look well. What I'd say you should use in this situation is a 1'' to 1.25 '' curling iron, some tousle spray (such as Herbal Essences Tousle me softly, see THIS post for a reference) or Bumble and Bumble Sea Spray to finish the look off. All you need to do is wrap about 1 inch sections of hair around your curling iron, doing this over your whole head. We want bigger curls so they look more natural. Don't put product in your hair before because we're putting spray in to set it. Once you've done your whole head, shake all of the curls out and go through them with your fingers. If they look too curled, you can brush them out with a comb. After you've sha-sha-shaken it, go ahead and spray your Tousle spray et voila! Tu es fini! (You're finished, for those who don't speak francaise) You can make it more Bardot-y and secure in a half pony with a few bobby pins in the back, or just let it flow free baby!

I hope everyone has a terrific Valentines and your man is completely in awe of you! You better get at least some chocolates out of this...or maybe..you know some..woopie. Yes I speak Sims. I am clearly single.

Lana Del Rey..I love you

by Miss Style on Friday, January 20, 2012

She's beautiful. She's got mad style. AND her music is OFF THE CHAIN. But she's gotten a bad rap lately. Bloggers have been remarking that she "tanked" on SNL, but I personally think she was nervous. She's a brand new singer and about to just MAKE it, and I think the stress of fame got to her. Unfortunately, the fact that she was born into money doesn't make it that much better for her reputation, but nonetheless I think if you do what you want and you make good music and you look damn good while doing it, you shouldn't be criticized too harshly. I do have few things I'd like to discuss with her manager/publicist though...

She's so lovvvvely...I think she just makes my wildest hipster style dreams come true, and if I were to ever be so bold as to make music, I'd do it her way. So this story is leading to when I dressed up in a white gown and wore a flower crown+dark lipstick to watch her perform on SNL.

How I made the crown was i got some old silk flowers and took them off of their plastic stems so the bulb and the teeny stem was all that was left. Then I got a long piece of yarn.

I tied the yarn in little knots on the end of their little leftover stems tightly, and made sure I alternated flowers and put them close together since they'd be stretched out on my head.

I did not (or will not ever have enough ca a ash to) wear this outfit, but it's semi-reminiscent.

I used Va Va violet lipstick by Revlon. This baby only comes out on special occasions.

Finished product!

Some of my favorite things this week..

by Miss Style on Saturday, January 14, 2012

Miss Style's mood may not always be as cheery as she'd like it, and especially today when I had to say goodbye to my best friend and sissy of 18 years while she trekked it back to Colorado for school (I live in Texas). I'm a tad down in the dumps. I won't see her for 3 months! THAT'S TOO LONG!

Therefore, to cheer my lil self up, I'm going to post my 5 favorite things from this week!

I got this jacket for around $35 at Forever. I couldn't resist and I don't regret it one bit. Everyone needs a little '80s flair leather nude jacket right? I know I do. Ahh it's love.

My sister got me these from alloy.com for Christmas. They're in the brightest green shade, and I wore them with a summery cocktail dress for a party we had last week. Perfection.

I also got this hat for Christmas (damn my family is stylish, right?). It's a taupe-ish color and fits perfectly to my weird shaped head. I feel like walking down a brick boulevard in the middle of London when I wear it. (Forever 21)

I got this stylish little planner last year during the summer because I needed to keep myself in order during the school year. Little did I know that it was for 2012, and so I kept it and waited for January to come. It's the prettiest shade of green with gold leafed pages and ink, and it has a ribbon place holder. Now all I need is an old timey ink pen to go with it.. (Barnes and Noble)

oh and this is a given. It's my puppy, Scarlett O'Hara, and she's kind of the love of my life. She's been a part of the family since September, and it's been the best I could ask for. She's flawless! Now I need a boy puppy so I can name him Rhett and my life can be complete. (Adopted from the pound, which is, in my opinion the ONLY way you should get a puppy!)

Side note,  the lip stain I reviewed yesterday worked like magic today!! I put it on at around 1 pm and it's now 5 pm, I've gotten in a workout and did errands all day, and it's still on! Lovely!

Yay for cheap products that work! Also, why is it january and I'm wearing a tank top? Texas, you suck.

Product Review: NYC Lip Stain

by Miss Style on Friday, January 13, 2012

so, you all know how lip stain is like, dabomb.com right now right? I guess it was and now it's coming back, but that's beside the point. the point is, that I recently saw a blog post which stated "Champagne Stain by NYC is awesome" and so, I had to try this theory out.  NYC products are usually so cheap, I stick to what I know, and what I know is their nail polish. Good for trying a new color and whatnot, but I tend to stay away from their other products and go with the more expensive things for skin and face makeup.

Now, it was much easier to put on and glided on quite smoothly as compared to my "Color Sensational" lip stain by Maybelline. I like the color, but I would prefer it to be lighter. I guess looking at the color of the bottle on camera it does look darker, so I probably should have gone a shade lighter if I wanted a more natural look. All in all, I'd say this is a great product. I like the color, and as you can see it's true to what the bottle looks like. It promises 16 hour coverage, but i'm about to go to bed, so I'll have to try it tomorrow and see if it works out. I plan to try Maybelline's new "Baby lips" colored balm soon, so I'll let you all know how this stain stayed on when I review that. Go try this product! It's cheap and it looks super cute on! AND they have a LOT of different shades.

Thumbs UP.

Holiday Looks

by Miss Style on Tuesday, January 10, 2012

Remember that one time when I was like "I'm too lazy to edit Holiday Party Pretty Part 3"? I'm still that lazy. So have some of my holiday looks instead.

We went to a little place called "Disneyland" over the holidays. Sported a fishtail braid, denim shirt, black jeans and some plain white chucks for a day of frolicking and fun!

We then jetted to London..or Epcot Center. Such a stylish part of Disney World if I do say so myself!

CUT TO

Christmas. Burning Flames. Warmth. Mmmm.

Here I'm sporting a lovely Calvin Klein dress to the local family Christmas party, with plain black pumps. I was quite proud to fit into that dress. My sister is also pretty in polka dots isn't she?

New years Eve sisterly love! After dinner we decided to take some Christmas tree shots, even though I was a tad tipsy from the wine...I'm wearing a nice silk floral print zip up dress and Target wedges! I also had on the cutest knee length cardigan for most of the night, but I was getting hot flashes from the alcohol. I'm so glad me and my sister share a keen fashion sense (doesn't she look great?).

Because I'm too lazy to edit Part 3 of HPP..

Have an outfit instead?

Sorry guys, I've been way too busy and also a little lazy to edit my makeup portion of the Holiday Party Pretty...it's not even really holiday season anymore but maybe for that Valentines Date I know you all have...;). I'll make sure it gets uploaded soon. Instead, I thought you'd like to see my outfit for today! It was super cute and trendy, oh and you all KNOW this chick loves a good deal, so it was also pretty cheap!

Sorry for my sullen expression in the first photo. I was trying to be serious and sexy. I love this outfit because it's so hip and now. I've been reading in Lucky on how to mix lighter pastels such as this sweater, and it was recommended to either go all out because most neutral pastels complement each other, or to add a simple grey. I bought grey pants at Kohls today but they were too big so they're not pictured, but they would have gone perfectly with this outfit! Rats! So I went with the next best thing, my FREE (yes, FREE) Loft Jeans that were handed down to me by my sister. I was also happy how well the Turquoise necklace complemented the pink, they're one of my favorite color combos. The sweater was 35$, and such a good buy because I've been wanting a pink colored peice of clothing for so long! The Boots...oh the boots. I SWOON for the boots because they were literally only 25$ (plus tax so more like 30$...) AND they were Vera Wang. I mean, you cannot get better than that. Now it's time to meet my parents for Sushi and some more shopping afterwards..you guys know I live life hard and fast, hard and fast.

Stay classy, bitches!

Holiday Party Pretty, Part 2

by Miss Style on Sunday, January 1, 2012

OUTFIT CHOOSAL! (choosal is not a word, I made it up so go with it)

So you're wondering what to wear with that pretty hairstyle I just helped you create? Well no worries, Ms Style is here to help. Oh and you're on a budget? No problem, I've got that covered as well. You see, for us girls, shopping for new outfits is fun. As my mom would so unknowingly say, "Molly, you don't need to buy a new outfit for every occasion." Oh how right, and at the same time, wrong, she is. You can mix up pieces in your closet to make any outfit look different, but a party is only a party if you're wearing new shoes or a sexy new cocktail dress. We're looking to make a lasting impression here, not look good in what you already have. I say, stick with the same basic pieces such as a white button down or a pair of sleek black skinny jeans and wow the crowd with a brand new set of heels and a silk blazer. Which brings me to outfit collage number 1.

Blazing the Trail

What you already have in your closet-- Sleek black pants or sexy black skinny jeans (no leather leggings or leggings of any kind allowed for this classy bitch!).

What you need-- A new blazer in an unconventional color, and maybe that pair of stilettos you've been admiring all christmas and you finally got some cash to cover it.

Black Pants: Target
White Blazer: LC by Lauren Conrad for Kohls, $49
Blue Blazer: Forever 21, $29.80
Leopard Print Blazer: Forever 21, $32.80
Sparkle Flats: (Both colors) Old Navy, $25
Nude Pumps: Forever 21, $18
Wine Loafer Wedges: Forever 21, $25

Stick your hair in a classy up do, slick on some bright lipstick and you're READY TO GO!

But what if you'd rather do a sexy ass dress...Well I can help with that! Here are some of my favorite trends for 2011 that should go out in style...pardon the pun ;). PS, If I see any of you "classy bitches" in a one shoulder dress or covered in sequins with platform pumps, I will NOT be amused.

These dresses are a mixture of my favorite trends from 2011, and not only are they completely wearable, but they're cute to boot! AND ready for any holiday party! Can you spot the sneaky Missoni-like print with bold colors (reminiscent of her line for the now sold out Target collection)? Can you spot a pop of 2011's favorite color, bright blue? What about tiny pleats and chiffon which SCREAMS 1970s? Bold polka dots with a classic silhouette? Oh and don't forget to mix your vintage-y lace dress with a leopard shoe!

From Left:
Modcloth "Mink Pink" cocktail dress: $70, modcloth.com
Blue platform Mary Janes: $25, Forever 21
Multi color Print Cowl neck dress: $24, Forever 21
Glitter Stiletto heels: Payless, $35
Tiered Chiffon dress: LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl's, $48
Vintage lace dress: LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl's, $54
Leopard Pumps: Target, $30

So NOW are you ready for that fated Holiday party? I think I just heard all of the booty hugging dresses attached to duck lip girls sigh in defeat. Go knock em dead, classy bitches!
