Did someone say AWARDS SEASON?

by Miss Style on Thursday, February 2, 2012

I sure did. Awards season has come and will soon go, but why not have a little fun while it's here? For lord's sake, Prada had hot wheel stilettos on the runway this season, if that doesn't say fun, I don't know what does.
(Prada, Spring RTW 2012)

I mean, they're the bee's knees is what they are. I've never been so excited seeing kitschy 50's prints on thousand dollar clothing. Like, never.

Unfortunately for Prada, Miss Style is calling "Awards Season", and as much as we'd all like to see Dita Von Teese with a cute little printed romper and jacket combo, something tells me that's more suited for Coachella '12 rather than Oscars Red Carpet. I'm not going to be the one to tell Dita this, though.
Here are some of my absolute favorites that I pray to see on the carpet this year.

Can we just pause for a moment to talk about how randomly cheeky this Givenchy group shot was this year? A gym and a basketball? Riccardo Tisci, it is your world and we are living in it.

This was my favorite from the collection. It's simple, but in its simplicity there's such a rare beauty that you can only find from Givenchy (look at me waxing poetic). We already saw Zoe Saldana rocking the full white number (fourth dress from right) at the SAG awards this year, so who knows? Maybe we'll see another starlet taking the plunge with this Givenchy halter gown...pun intended.

Before we go on, can I just ask what the current obsession is with bodysuits and sheer fabrics? I mean, John Paul Gaultier, I love you, but can't you ONCE design something long enough for a celeb to wear on the red carpet? I literally saw a model's boobies on the runway this spring...Uncle, Uncle!

I guess if anyone's allowed to "celebrate the female form" it should be Gaultier, but still..

I did love this little number! Maybe Helene Bonham Carter could try to pull it off? *Doesn't hold my breath*

Here's a little somethin-somethin from Alexis Mabille. I wonder how hard the face paint is to get off..

This dress reminds me of the famous green silk number from Atonement (With Keira Knightly). I love his take on one shoulder, and the '30s reference is so...je ne sais pas! Words escape me. It's devine! Whoever's ballsy enough to try this at the Oscars, the highest of fives shall be given.

This devine gold gown may be a little harder to pull off when you think of what Ms Rivers would have to say. Maybe Sarah Jessica Parker could take a whack at it? Either way, I feel like I've died and gone to 24 Carat heaven with this dress.

And then, there's Valentino. I always say "No red on the red carpet!", because I feel like it's too..clashy-clashy. I'll take a red print though!

I loved the prints I saw on the Valentino runway this season. It's like kitchen wallpaper gone high fashion goodness.

And then of course, there's white. So much beautiful white on the runways for Spring, from Jil Sander to this wonderful dress. I'm thinking Emma Stone and her fiery red hair would OWN this.

Oh McQueen/Sarah Burton. How you rev my engine.

A little secret--one of my all time favorite looks is Drew Barrymore at the 2010 Golden Globes in this Atelier Versace dress. I think I'm so attracted to the idea of petite ruffles that look like gills, which are apparent in both dresses. When I saw this on the Spring 2012 RTW runway, it took my breath away! What do you say, Barrymore? Care to up the ante a little bit and try out the ruffle gills again?

Did someone say Dior?

Mr. Christian jumped on the bandwagon with the sheer trend for Spring, but I don't mind it one bit. Especially if Zooey Deschanel wore this. I mean the pink stripe! Come on!

L'Wren Scott, Anyone?

Beautiful fabrics make my day, and Penelope Cruz's body in this? Hello.

BUT BUT What about Chanel?? Oh don't worry, I didn't forget. I loved the 2012 Spring Couture collection, but unfortunately we never do get good Oscar Dresses from Lagerfeld.

That's okay, though. I'm really feeling the "after-party-I'm-too-drunk-to-dance-in-my-long-gown" vibe that these cocktail dresses provide. Um, Ginnifer Goodwin, please make your stylist get on this.

And then there was Lanvin..

I mean...the prints and the sparkle and the pastels! I will tell you one thing--pastel might as well be my middle name. No I am not secretly a gay interior designer, but just the thought of pastels really gets me going. I think pastels in general are my favorite color. Not like, blue, just..pastels. Thank you, Lanvin, for making my pastel dreams come true.

Speaking of Pastels..

We can always count on Elie Saab to grant pastel wishes, right? I mean, of course, it's been done before by the same brand, but who DOESN'T get chills when they see a pale yellow chiffon float down the runway? Oh come on, I can't be the only one.

Et finalment, we have Proenza Schouler. Although I didn't take to their entire collection, I feel head over heels for this beauty. Charlize Theron needs to get on (or into) this.

I feel like we should place fashion bets now that I've named my favorites. Hey, the guys have the super bowl and we have the Oscars. No shame.
